The ever present demand to maximise the value delivered by business-critical applications requires that we optimise the use of all the resources that execute and manage them. This includes the physical hardware, the software, and particularly the increasingly scarce experienced Database Administrators (DBAs) who support them. For applications that run on DB2 on z/OS this requires tools and technologies that can review and tune the SQL statements that may be running across multiple, distributed DB2 subsystems.
BMC Software is one of the major vendors offering such support and has a highly regarded set of solutions collectively called BMC SQL Performance for DB2. These tools and technologies identify SQL that is performing poorly and offer mechanisms that help fix issues such as bad access paths, inefficient SQL, and ineffective indexing.
