Effects of Solid State on Microsoft SQL Server 2008
sponsored by Kingston Technology Company, Inc.

This whitepaper contains the results of testing conducted to better understand how Kingston solid-state disk positively affects the scalability of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 databases. The findings shown here are from the end user's perspective, using TPC-C-like benchmarking of a large OLTP database. The results show a significant increase in overall potential user load and scaling, while at the same time providing improved response time under all tested loads. In addition, when using solid state over traditional disk, a 45 percent power savings was found to deliver a 15,000 user workload. Kingston solid-state disk can provide a better end user experience at a reduced or similar cost at a significantly reduced complexity when compared to normal disk subsystems.
