Product:  HP PolyServe Database Utility for SQL Server
Company:  Hewlett-Packard Company
Type:  Software
Description:  HP PolyServe's Database Utility for SQL Server is specially designed for mission-critical databases and their applications. Deploying a shared-data architecture, it avoids the pitfalls of server virtualization alternatives, such as performance overhead and unreliable server failover. The fundamental idea of the Database Utility for SQL Server is to treat the hardware resources--servers and storage--that support a collection of SQL Server databases as a single, flexible pool of resources that can be allocated to any database. HP’s PolyServe Database Utility software is "shared data clustering" software that eliminates the restrictive bond between a SQL Server instance, a given server and its allocated storage. Instead Dynamic ReHosting™ enables instances to be moved from one server to another in less than 30 seconds and the symmetric cluster file system creates one easy to manage pool of storage shared by all servers. All servers are protected by inherent active to active high availability and system capacity can be increased in real-time without disrupting service. Along with the reduction in server count, management time and number of instances to manage, the total cost of ownership is significantly reduced.
